Cool App of the Day: SwipePad

SwipePad

This is a hidden app selector or shortcut list for your android phone. The way it works is you can set the pull location on your phone. For example, you can set it to be hidden at the right corner of your phone. So, all you have to do is slide your finger from the top right corner of your phone to the middle of your phone and 12 slots will show up (see picture above). For each slot you can set a shortcut for applications, contacts, direct dial for a contact, direct message for a contact or many more. This app is most useful for setting your favorite contacts.

Cool App of the Day: ColorNote

If you're one of those people who needs a "to do" reminder to keep your life organized then this app is perfect for you. It's very practical because of it's simple and straight to the point functionalities. ColorNote is a notepad/sticky note application. The cool thing about it is you can stick either a simple sticky note reminder or a full "check list" reminder right on your home screen, making it hard for you to miss your reminders. No more writing on your hand so you won't forget to buy that bar of soap on your way home from work. Here are some of the functions I find useful with this app.

Notes List

Once you open the app you can easily add an infinite amount of reminders, notes, and checklists on the main menu by a simple press of the "+" button. The list can be sorted by created time, modified date, alphabetical order, or by color. Yes, you can assign each note with a different color of your choice and the color chosen will be the color of the sticky note widget on your home screen (see picture above). This is also helpful in using the colors as level of importance, or if you're a fun person the colors are fun to play with =).

Check List

One of the functions I find very useful is the checklist. The checklist can be used for a list of things. It can be used for monthly bills reminder, grocery shopping list, to do list, or simply a list of things to bring on your trip, and it has made my life a little easier. It's very simple to add items on your check list. Once a check list is created on the main menu, you simply open the list and click on the pencil icon on the top right corner of the screen. This will allow you to modify your list and enables you to add items to it. Not the order that you want your items to be? Not a problem, the items can easily be rearranged by simply dragging it up or down to a spot of your choice. The list can also be added on your home screen as a widget (see picture above) to easily keep track of things you've done and what still needs to be done.

Widgets can be easily added on your home screen by long pressing on the phone's screen and selecting "ColorNote" under the list of widgets. Here you are given 2 size choices for the widget you want to add. A 1X1 widget, which is a simple sticky note on your home screen, or a 2x2 widget which is used for a check list that you have created.

This is one of the apps created with simplicity but with full functionality. The developers put a lot of thought on this app to make it very user friendly while providing a full range of usability.

HERE is a link of the application. Make sure to check it out!

Why Root an Android Phone?

To be honest, i first rooted my android phone about 3 years ago for a sole reason, to take advantage of data tethering. Data tethering is when you use your phone's internet service as a wifi hotspot and connect multiple devices to it (i.e. laptops). This became very useful to me during road trips. As i became more acquainted with my android device i found some other rather cool functions that rooting an android device unlocks.

Advantages of a rooted Android device:

-Wifi Wireless Tether- Use your phone as a wifi router/hotspot for FREE and connect multiple devices. Try Wifi Tether app or Barnacle Wifi app.

-Install a Custom Rom- Google "CyanogenMod" for better understanding. There are all kinds of different Roms out there built for stability or speed or for eye candy.

-Screenshot- With the help of an app called "shoot me" you can take a screenshot of your phone's screen.

-WiiMote- This is one of the fun ones. You can use a Wii remote controller as a controller for your phone. Pair it with a game system emulater (Playstation or Nintendo) and viola! You have yourself a game system in your phone. Check out Wiimote App.

-HDMI full functionality- This is only if you have an HTC Evo 4g. By default, you can only use your phone's hdmi with video captures. But when you have your phone rooted and HDMwIn app installed you unlock the full capability of your phone's HDMI and enable 1:1 mirror imaging of your phone and your HDTV. Pair this up with a game system emulator and the Wiimote app and you have yourself a mini PS3 or Nintendo.

-Overclocking- Turbo boosting your phone.

-nandroid backup- What this does is make a full range back up of your phone, everything from your phones settings to how your homepage was set up. This will come in handy when you've accidentally changed something on your phone and you wished you can turn back time.

Convinced yet? Here are some guides to rooting a phone just in case you're thinking about it.

Finally Got The Hang Of It

Finally got this site all set up! It was a little tough, to be honest. Specially for someone like me, someone who's a little challenged with html coding. I'm telling you Google is your friend! Soon i will add all my Go Launcher EX Themes under its own page. For now, just make good use of my Android Market button on the sidebar to get a full view of all my themes.
